Hah! No, the wee “wheatie” is back amongst the “wilds” of commerce here in
Florida by now. I used it the day after I snapped the image. There was no mint
mark, which usual means it came out of the Philadelphia site way back when. I
guess I’ll take a peek at eBay the next time with the old ones before I release
‘em. Dern! :)

The next set shows the latest entry in a pastime that I’ve had for years
now, and I like to think of it as a numismatic-spin on the Florida Wildlife
Commission’s “Catch and Release” program for fish. I look for old coins in
the change that I receive from retail transactions or just finding along the
way "on the street". If the sight of the old coins doesn’t catch your
attention just pay attention to how coins “feel”. The old ones have a
different feel…and sound sometimes, too, versus more recently minted coins.
I used to collect them in past decades but now once I find them I just put
‘em back into circulation. I know, its a quirky pastime but it makes me
smile… My oldest one yet has been a 1923 penny in really rough shape but
still being accepted. Try it for yourselves sometimes - you’ll be amazed,
too, just how long some of the wee ones have been circulating and doing
their job of lubricating the gears of commerce. :)
