Hi David,

The (claimed) compatibility is backward only. One of these new-fangled disk player will be able to read DVD and BluRay DVDs but not the other way around.

I am very leery of any claims to archival permanence from a plastic disk that stores 500GB.

I don't wish to re-open that debate. But, for those who prefer discs, here's a note, from the today's BBC website, about GE's new holographic disc, expected to hold 500GB per disc, and be compatible with existing DVD & Blu-Ray formats.
