Greetings Danny:
According to the field guides this bird, with its high contrast facial
pattern, the almost completely white malar stripe, and the extensive
reddish in the scapulars and flight feathers, would be an Eastern
Meadowlarks. Others, focusing on the relatively light streaking along the
flanks and the lack of strong red markings in the scapulars and flight
feathers, might disagree. I have, however, heard birds that looked quite
good for Eastern Meadowlark emit Western Meadowlark call notes or sing
Western Meadowlark song. I, myself, identify all meadowlarks as Meadowlark
sp. unless I hear vocalizations.
