I did not think we left early, but missed seeing Jennifer and Jim.
We went to the small forest almost 2 miles south of Slaton, and saw the many
egrets arriving for the night.
I did not see a good place to park.
We crossed over the railroad track, then turned back to the highway.
The evening with the group was very enjoyable.
I cannot hear the birds, near or far.
Jim Crites pointed out the Painted Bunting in the distance. Apparently,
everyone could hear it.

It was a beautiful evening, culminating in a lovely sunset. The fellowship was
great fun. The birding sights and the quiet of the location, made for a very
nice event.
Matt and I focused on counting Cattle Egret and visiting with everyone. Our
list included:
265 Cattle Egret
7 Scissor-tailed Flycatcher
13 Western Kingbird
7 Common Nighthawk
1 Painted Bunting
3 Black-necked Stilts (on a nearby playa)
Some great birders spent time near a sunflower patch and had some good finds.
To anyone who participated, please share your sights. I’m certain many of you
will complete an eBird report.
Thank you to everyone who made the effort to drive out to this location. Please
do share your finds if you have time.
Welcome to Tucker Dangremond our new LEAS member who attended last evening.
Tucker is a great addition to the group. Happy to have him with us as he begins
