For what it's worth, Clapp has always been on the edge of sketchy. When I used
to visit every day I had all sorts of... interesting encounters. It is
definitely best to be vigilant. I'm glad Skyler is safe and I hope that the
authorities can help.
I don't want this incident and the history of incidents to discourage folks
from visiting Clapp. I have interesting encounters from just about everywhere
in the county, including Ransom Canyon.

Skyler,
I believe that filling out a Police report is a necessity.
We can't allow this sort of thing, and we do not want to take matters into
our own hands.

Subject: [leasbirds] Possible attempted mugging at Clapp Park
Hi everyone,
I was birding Clapp Park earlier this evening and was in the area between the
fence of the Arboretum and the playa lake looking at various hawks when two
teens asked from a distance me if I had cigarettes or money. I said I didn't.
They said I did. They looked around to see if anyone else was coming and
started coming towards me saying they weren't going to do anything - at which
point I decided now would be a good time to start running. They ran after me.
I ran, hoping to run into anyone else, until I came upon a woman who
threatened to call the cops if they didn't leave me alone. They turned back.
I didn't get a good look at the teens as I tried to keep my distance, but
they seemed to be about 15 maybe and African American.
I felt like y'all should be made aware for when you're out there. I love
Clapp Park and this is the first time anything like that's happened.
All the best,
- Skyler Parks
