Greetings All:
By the time I got to Lake Two this afternoon (about 1:40 or so) the
winds were so bad that I could not identify much of anything using
binoculars. Instead, I angled the car and simply took photographs of
all the diving ducks I could get a lens on ... planning to work the
identifications out when I got home.
I definitely had 2 female and 2 male Canvasbacks, 1 female and 1 male
Redhead, 2 male Ring-necked Ducks, and at least 2 Lesser Scaup ... as
well as 2 female and 1 male Buffleheads. I have one tantalizing shot
of a female scaup with a very strong anterior bulge to the head ...
which looks, to me, like the bulging forehead of a Greater Scaup. I
am having a couple of other eBird reviewers look at the photograph to
see if they think it worthy of submission to eBird as a Greater Scaup.
All of the birds were foraging together roughly 0.15 miles downstream
from University Avenue.
