I can not recommend this tour enough!
The weather was perfect.
We arrived before sunrise and could hear the “chickens” on the lek.
When the sun came up the birds were surprisingly close and very visible.
I believe there were 8 males and then 2 females made an appearance to watch the
boys put on their show.
It was great to see the displays and hear the vocalizations. I am sooo glad I
took advantage of this opportunity.
In addition, we saw vesper sparrows, long billed curlews
( fantastic since I missed the one at crow park.)
Horned larks, meadow larks,
lark buntings,
chihuahuan ravens, scaled quail, a northern Harrier, Swainson’s hawks, and a
couple kestrels.
We all wore masks. I personally felt safe.
Drew erected a blind in the bed of his PU and provided a scope for even closer
viewing. In addition, having him along to help with bird ID and provide
information regarding the prairie chickens here in West Texas was invaluable.
For anyone thinking about this,(as I said above) I cant recommend it enough.
