This afternoon at about 6:20 I found a tern at Dupree park. After refreshing my memory on the field marks for Forster's and Common Terns, I headed down to the water to make an ID. Turns out it was a Least Tern. Steve Collins had spotted the bird earlier in the day and confirmed the ID. The bird was smaller than the more common terns mentioned earlier, though this was not readily noticeable at first, since nothing else was nearby for comparison. Once the bird flew, it was easier to note the size. The bird was shorter tailed, had a yellowish (not reddish) bill tipped in black, and had a white forehead (very noticeable when looking at me) offset by the black cap and line from the bill to the cap. This is the 2nd Least Tern I've seen in the area over 20+ years of birding the Lubbock area. Sent slowly from Phillip Kite's iPhone
