Agree, Jennifer. The one photo needs to be expanded to nail the bill length.
Sadly, this individual was not very chirpy. J

Caught that as well, but still seems long. Nat, Geo even says of the PW,
"disproportionately" long bill. Hard to say without vocalizations, but I'm
leaning PW. It is visually fairly different from the WW that has been here for
some time at my home. Again vocals would nail it.

That caught me too, but zoom in. It’s an illusion with a dark spot in the wood
behind the wren.

In the 3rd photo the bill looks very long. Could that be just an abnormal trait
to the bird? Decurved almost like a thrasher.

Thanks, Jennifer. Looking at the two birds, it’s pretty apparent that the
differences here are extremely subtle.
I caught a good shot of the rear underside as it was skedaddling, and it had
distinct bars…but the both birds do!
Seems like a lot of the distinction is likely geographic.
Good to know it is not a house wren…seen those before. Much shorter beaks. Less
uniform coloration.

It looks like a winter/pacific wren to me. The tail is nice and short and the
markings (notice the barred flanks and overall darker coloring) match a
winter/pacific as well. The most likely of the winter/pacific here is the
winter wren but pacifics have been showing up around us and your pics give a
“warm look” to this bird. After that, I don’t have experience distinguishing
the two. Hopefully someone else can or going to record it calling would be
helpful.

Colleagues,
I need help with an ID. Caught photos of the following wren under the south
side of the trestle below lake 6 dam. AI ID keeps telling me it is a winter
wren. Want to be sure to distinguish this from a house wren.
Thanks, Joe
