Greetings All:
Sheri Anderson and I relocated the female Cassin's Finch (located
yesterday by at least three of the Cochrans) at the Lubbock Cemetery.
It was with a large group of Northern Cardinals (14) and House Finches
(48), foraging beneath conifers in the vicinity of Gallardia and
Begonia. Towards the beginning of our visit I thought I heard at
least one Red Crossbill calling from a flock of overflying finches. We
were not able to locate this bird. Towards the end of our visit a
large mixed flock of Western and Mountain Bluebirds flew over in a
generally eastern direction. In between we had 1 Yellow-bellied
Sapsucker (I don't know if it was a lowdown, sidewindin' one or not),
at least 4 Golden-crowned Kinglets, at least 5 Red-breasted
Nuthatches, 1 very noisy Brown Thrasher, and at least 4 Townsend's
Solitaires - along with the usual mix.
The biggest surprise: a long Inca Dove working over a patch of pigweed
with a horde of Mourning Doves - near the east end of the cemetery!
Regard; Anthony Hewetson
