Greetings,
Today at Makenzie park, there was a flock of 6 Black-bellied Whistling Ducks.
My cellphone picture is almost good enough to be able to tell that’s what they
are, as long as you know that’s what they are. Also at Makenzie park were
2(maybe 3) Solitary Sandpipers, a Spotted Sandpiper, and 4 Black-necked Stilts,
along with a Great Egret. Two Cattle Egrets (Mae Simmons, Lake 6) and a Snowy
Egret (Lake 6) rounded out the white egrets. A Clay-colored Sparrow joined the
Chippies at the cemetery. A pair of Yellow-Rumps at the cemetery were the only
Warblers I’ve seen in April. A Loggerhead Shrike was on Cherry, just north of
19th as I headed home.
Western Kingbirds are starting to filter in. Numbers still seem low to me and
it seems like in the past, the later they arrived, the more they showed up all
at once.
Earlier today I had both Lark and White-Crowned Sparrows at the State Supported
Living Center.
Earlier this week, I had an American Goldfinch in full breeding plumage in a
west Lubbock neighborhood.
