Winning with semantic waves: Tear and share of LCT research-to-practice
activities
Paul Curzon and Jane Waite
As researchers, we wish to not only have impact in our intellectual fields but
also empower practitioners, but how? The notion of ‘semantic waves’ is having
spectacular success in teaching computer science in England. It has been taken
up as best practice in official guidelines by OFSTED, the national
inspectorate, and many English school websites now proudly proclaim they use
semantic waves to teach computing science. How did this happen? In this
Roundtable, we shall share how this impact was achieved.
We will summarise how we have successfully shared insights from using LCT
beyond the academy to shape computer science education in England. We shall
discuss, with you, the barriers and opportunities you and we have encountered
when sharing research. So, let's learn together about research-to-practice and
start building on each other's experiences!
