Hi all
It’s exciting to see a seminar series in Brazil. All it takes to get a group
started or to get it going again is two people agreeing to meet regularly. It
can start with a coffee chat about LCT every other week. The Roundtable began
as a reading group.
So if you’re in a group, why not send a message to others - on the forum if it
helps - to start catching up on zoom. Make it a chance to try ideas out with
each other. It only takes two to begin!
We are stronger and smarter together.

Creating a curriculum for cultivating gazes: Curricular practices at a popular
music program
Marcus Medeiros & Amanda Martins – LCT Brazil
When a long cultivation process has been the way to informally learn a
practice, is it possible to school it without losing its main characteristics?
How can we build a program to cultivate the knower? Who can acquire the
legitimate gaze? In this Roundtable I will analyze an attempt to create a
curriculum for the cultivation of popular musicians. The dimension of
Specialization is used to understand the logics employed by a Brazilian popular
music school in organizing a curriculum that seeks to be different from that
stablished by the Western classical music tradition. I shall answer how
coordinators and teachers conceive the relations between knowledge and knowers
in this program; which strategies were employed to promote the desired
relations with significant others; and what principles underlie the criticisms
they make of higher music education.
