Knowledge practice is much wider than teaching contexts. LCT is a
general sociology theory NOT a theory of education. A lot of people are
using it in the context of teaching and learning but it can go beyond
that to understanding any use of knowledge and the people using it and
what are the structures underpinning how/why things happen. My own work
has focused on teaching and learning so I dont have lots of other
examples at my fingertips, but I am for example wanting to use LCT to
understand how you achieve transformational societal impact from
research as one example. (Jane Waite and I will be talking about this
indirectly in the online LCT talk this morning - See Karl's emails)
It could also mean knowledge practices in professional settings for
example...taking something at random a fire fighter has knowledge
practice based perhaps on experience and 'instinct' as well as training
and formal education, so it could be about understanding that mix say
and what is considered important. It could be about recruitment practice
of a company and how they make decisions. It could be about how
journalists get and write articles, ...
Others can probably give more better examples but look for example
through the LCT5 conference and programme titles and abstracts to get an
idea of the knowledge practices people are looking at (it is wider even
in education than just teaching strategies and pedagogy.
