We don't usually record announcements or news of the community in the minutes
of our Meetings for Business. So I'm sending those out separately, as I have
been for the past few weeks, since not all of us are able to be part of our
zoomed Meetings for Worship.
The announcements, news of the community, and requests to hold people in the
Light are below. The minutes from Meeting for Business will take a little
longer. Please excuse any typographical or grammatical errors; I'm trying to
share these quickly. If you see mistakes or omissions, please send a message to
the list serve with the correction.

Announcements
Next week, April 26th, Walter Brown, Bill Mims,and Ollie Moles will lead a
Second Hour at which Friends are invited to discerntogether our suggestions for
FCNL’s legislative priorities for the next twoyears. Friends are encouraged to
look at the materials Bill sent out earlier onour list serve or check the FCNL
website (www.fcnl.org)before the 2nd hour to familiarize themselves with the
currentpriorities.
Baltimore Yearly Meeting’s Educational Grants Committeeoffers scholarships for
college students. Applications are due soon for the2020-2021 academic year. See
the BYM website for more information or talk toBetty Smallwood, who serves on
the committee.
The Religious Education Committee will be leading a virtualplay session with
our younger Friends today starting at noon. They will bemaking and flying paper
airplanes. Friends of all ages who would like to playtogether after Meeting for
Business are invited to contact Alan Swanson to getan invitation to this zoomed
event.
Dona Manoukian asks us to think about how our lives havechanged, both
spiritually and in practical ways, during this pandemic. She iscollecting
accounts of our experiences. You can send a written account to hervia the post
or email.
This week’s Town Meeting, sponsored by the Care &Clearness Committee, will take
place via zoon on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.Mary Yeaney will be posting an
invitation soon. The theme this week is “How hasthis pandemic affected you?”
Dona will be taking notes for her collection. Thisis a piece of the history of
our religious community.
The Fellowship Committee will host a zoomed lunch gatheringtomorrow, April
20th, at noon. Expect an email invitation soon fromFrank Taylor.
News of the Community and Requests to Hold Friends in theLight
John Hanley, a long-time member of Langley Hill, diedsuddenly on April 10th of
causes unrelated to Covid-19. His wife,Faith, is not well known at the Meeting.
Both Tim Hunt and Dona Manoukian havespoken to Faith in recent days. They
report that she’s doing okay under thecircumstances. Please hold her and son,
Liam, in the Light. Dona will continueto be in touch with Faith. At some point,
when such things are possible, shewould like to have a memorial meeting for
John. In the meantime, she asks thatwe remember him. Friends who would like to
send cards may send them to 11243Handlebar Rd., Reston, VA 20191.
Elizabeth Rodas, who cares for our youngest children when wemeet for worship at
our building, sends her greetings. She misses being withus, and particularly
misses the children. Elizabeth lives with her mother, andthey are both fine.
Her brother, who lives in New York City, is recovering fromCovid-19, and his
wife has now tested positive for the disease. Please hold themall in the Light.
Pardee Lowe attended the first part of Meeting for Worshipfrom his hospital bed
at Virginia Hospital Center. He was admitted there onFriday because he was
having trouble breathing. He was for a period inintensive care and is receiving
oxygen, but several tests for Covid-19 have allbeen negative. I think he’s in a
regular hospital room now. He expects toreturn home soon, possibly tomorrow.
Babs Williams asks us to hold her sister, Patricia, in theLight. Patricia has
some disabilities and lives in a nursing home, where shehas contracted
Covid-19. She is on oxygen and expects to be transferred to ahospital within
the next day. Because of the pandemic, no one from her familycan be with her.

Tim Yeaney’s aunt, who lives on the Outer Banks of NorthCarolina, fell
recently. She is now in the hospital and is not likely to beable to go back to
living independently. She’s confused now and facing majorchanges in the way she
lives.
David Yeaney is working as an emergency medical technicianin New York City,
transporting sick people to medical care. His mother, Mary,says he’s tired, but
okay.
Paul Manoukian has been recovering well from his major backsurgery two months
ago. In the past few days, though, he has lost musclestrength, been confused,
and at one point had a slight fever. He’s beenconfined to his home for the past
two months, so it’s unlikely he hascontracted the coronavirus. Please hold him
and his family in the Light.
