Friends,
Some 37 households connected to our virtual Meeting for Worship yesterday.
Following worship and a time to share afterthoughts, Friends shared the
news and announcements below. I'm writing this message from hastily-taken
notes, so I may not have every detail quite right. Thank you for your
forbearance over small errors (particularly spelling). If I've messed
something up more substantially, please accept my apology and send a
correction to the entire list serve.
In Friendship,
Rebecca
Requests to hold people in the Light
Lauren Stockbower asks us to hold her younger sister, Marcy, in the Light
who learned on Friday that she has Covid-19.
Betty Smallwood asks us to hold the community of residents at Friends House
where she lives in the Light. They are having an outbreak of Covid cases. I
think she mentioned five cases there at the moment.
Mary Yeaney asks us to hold Elaine Williams and her husband in the Light as
they continue to await a bone marrow transplant operation to treat his
multiple myeloma.
Mary also asks us to hold Susan Carmody in the Light as she recovers from
recent hip surgery. She is now at home and receiving physical therapy.
Najla Drooby and Fred Krimgold ask us to hold Arlene Fleming in the Light
as she recovers from recent surgery.
Ann Bauer asks us to hold her cousin Neil Anderson, who attended this
Meeting for many years, in the Light. He is undergoing treatment for cancer
that had been in remission for 21 years.
Ollie Moles asks us to hold Charles Belamy, a family friend, in the Light.
Charles has lost his job and is struggling to find his way.
Paul Werbos asks us to hold his nephew, Robert, in the Light. Robert is a
occupational therapist who has recently contracted Covid-19. The drug
Regeneron is supposed to be available to treat front-line healthcare
workers, Paul says, but his nephew has not received any. Paul asks us to
hold the entire healthcare system in the Light at this challenging and
dangerous time.
Other News of the Community
Pat Hunt -- Tim's mother -- turns 100 today! Because there can't be a large
gathering to celebrate this milestone, family members have been celebrating
with her virtually all month. She's one of the reasons he's a Quaker, Tim
says. She is such a guiding presence in his and many people's lives. Happy
Birthday, Friend Pat!
Announcements
Langley Hill's annual Christmas program will take place this year during
the 2nd hour time on Sunday, Dec. 20th. It will be virtual -- by Zoom.
Although the program is still taking shape, it will include some
karaoke-style singing of Christmas carols in which singing and the words
will be shared with participants, who will mute themselves as they sing
along at home. The program is intended to be intergenerational, so we hope
everyone will come.
The Meeting's virtual black box welcomes financial contributions to support
the work of the Meeting. Contributions can be made by PayPal from the
Meeting's web page or by check mailed to the meeting house address. See the
web page for full details.
This Thursday, Dec. 10, the book group sponsored by the Anti-racism Working
Group will meet virtually at 7 p.m. to discuss "The Warmth of Other Suns,"
by Isabel Wilkerson. A Zoom invitation will be posted on the list serve
soon. At the Thursday meeting the group will also be choosing books to read
in the future and setting dates for upcoming meetings. Look for more
information on the list serve.
The Communications Committee has posted a new sign at the end of the
meeting house driveway: Live Simply so Others may Simply Live. It will
remain up for the month of December, and then we'll have a break from
having a sign for awhile.
Next Sunday we will hold our monthly Meeting for Worship with a Concern for
Business. Worship will begin at 10 a.m., as usual, and we will transition
to consideration of our business at 10:30. Among other things, we can
expect reports from the Nominating and Finance Committees and requests for
action on two membership requests. Committees and individuals with other
items for the Meeting's attention this month should contact Clerk Tim Hunt
as soon as possible.
Ray Bridge is taking part in phone banking to voters of color in Georgia
concerning the upcoming Senate elections there. He finds making these calls
a very friendly process. If anyone is interested in finding out more,
please contact him directly.
