Hello All,
Had a couple nice highlights on an otherwise quiet morning. In addition to
the flock of White-faced Ibis still hanging around the Fischer Butte area
of Fern Ridge, I ran into a family of Virginia Rails. Vickie Buck and I
heard the female calling for a while then saw her swim in the channel along
the east side of the pond 5 earlier in the morning, then about a half hour
later I was walking by the same area and noted an adult Virginia Rail,
followed by another, followed by a few tiny, black fluff balls tumbling
among grass. They were mostly hidden and difficult to see, but then the
entire family swam across the channel! I got some poor photos, attached to
my eBird checklist here: https://ebird.org/checklist/S69149695
Good birding!
