“‎We have to demand the things that are essential to our
lives, equality, and quality of life. We must refuse to feel gratitude for
these, except the normal level of gratitude that anyone might feel for living
in a time and place that still supports human life."

Quality Work

http://www.ndrn.org/images/Documents/Resources/Publications/Reports/Segregated-and-Exploited.pdf

Today, across the United States of America, hundreds of
thousands of people with disabilities are being isolated and financially
exploited by their employers. Many are segregated away from traditional work
and kept out of sight. Most are paid only a fraction of the minimum wage while
many company owners make six -figure salaries. Many people profit off of their
labor.

Simply put, sheltered workshops are just another
institution segregating people with disabilities away because of our
unwillingness to accept that our perceived notions about their ability to work
may be wrong. >>> read more download pdf.

http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewMultiRoom?fcId=399470369

Apple is highlighting a growing number of apps catering to
individuals with special needs with a featured special education section in its
App Store. The section titled “Special Education” launched late last week and
includes 72 applications for the iPhone and 13 applications for the iPad in 10
categories ranging from communication to emotional development and life skills,
according to Trudy Muller, an Apple spokeswoman.
The special education category is currently showcased as
one of four editorial features in the App Store. Apps, which can be used on
Apple’s iPhone, iPad or iPod devices, have become increasingly popular in the
special needs community in recent years, serving as everything from assistive
technology devices to organizational tools and teaching aids.

classrooms
                    http://differentiationdaily.com/

A new website each day to help teachers reach & teach all
learners in K-12 classrooms. This blog is written by Paula Kluth, a researcher,
consultant, and presenter interested in differentiating instruction, active
learning, and inclusive schooling. She has worked as a special education
teacher, an inclusion facilitator, and as a professor of education (most
recently at Syracuse University). Today, she is a consultant full time, and
still does some research and a lot of writing but also works with schools to
move students with disabilities into inclusive placements, to individualize
lessons in K-12 classrooms, and to make learning more fun and relevant for
diverse learners

Exploratree is a free web resource where you can access a
library of ready-made interactive thinking guides, print them, edit them or
make your own. You can share them and work on them in groups too. It provides a
series of ready-made interactive 'thinking guides' or 'frameworks' which can
support students' projects and research. Thinking guides support the thinking
or working through of an issue, topic or question and help to shape, define and
focus an idea and also support the planning required to investigate it further.
Exploratree guides can be used as a basis for whole class discussion, or
emailed to individuals or groups to complete. They can also be used as a
presentation tool to share your findings and thinking with others. As well as
providing a set of ready to use thinking guides, which are completely
customizable and shareable, Exploratree also enables teachers and students to
create their own simply and easily.
