[kochi_hw_club] sound problem

dear hardware club members..
.. once again breaking the silence..
i have a via686b ac97 onboard sound - aopen
motherboard..
i am running sarge .. kernel 2.4.27 ...
i am using latest alsa..
the problem is that 2 applications cannot use the
sound simultaneously..
one has to wait for the other to finish..
else one crashes..
how to solve this thing
