Definitely. Also interesting was that Munro admitting his trouble finding new
engineers to analyse all this new tech. After thinking about it, I realized he
is targeting the wrong guys—hotshot techies here want to design the Next Big
Thing, not work for a teardown specialist.
Munro should recruit some talent in China, they’re good at forensic analysis of
somebody else’s tech.
Also, when the discussion went to upcoming competition for Tesla, you can see
they’re limited by their “car guy” thinking. Tesla is not really a car
company—their core business is energy storage (and soon, energy production)
tech. That’s why they dropped the name “Tesla Motors”. The car division is
their chief customer of that technology... for now.
If Elon Musk really thought the way Munro & crew do, he’d still be stuck in
online banking. Tesla will, I think, evolve into Con Edison for the 21st
century, or something even more radical, just as SpaceX will move from rocketry
alone into interstellar logistics.
Exponential change is here, if you know what to look for.

Thanks Robert,
I found that interesting not just because of the discussion of Tesla, but of
some of the discussion on the EV startup issues...
