Heads up:
Artists may chalk from April 3rd-12th. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic we have
eliminated all group categories. Please register as an individual artist or a
family if you have more than one artist working on the artwork.
So that said I’ll I’m registering as a family for one space on market square.
Anyone else want to register as a family or individual?

Robert,
Would you be willing to take the lead on trying to sign us up and see if
they still have any slots? I think we can get a few people to participate
in play coloring book on the concrete. 😊 (Plus us engineers can totally
over-engineer it.)

Competition starts April 3rd it looks like. I’d suggest the 4th as that’s a
pretty light traffic day (Sunday).
Anyone have a preference for which garage? Who else would want to help? At
a minimum I’m sure my kids would love to help so I’d say at least one of
the 4 spaces on the 4th at Market square.
Design wise, I’m thinking along the lines of free clean power thanks to the
city of Knoxville and TVA with maybe KEVA, City, and TVA logos on a smoky
mountain purple/orange background similar to the friends of smokies plates.
To me the message would be two-fold:
First, I still don’t think everyone even parking in the spaces there has
gotten the message that it’s free now - I still occasionally see unplugged
EV’s parking there.
Second, I don’t think that the general public realizes the strides TVA has
made in cleaning up its power portfolio over the last decade and a half,
going from ~60% coal plus 7% gas to ~60% carbon free. I say that because
one of the big discussion points of anti-EV messaging tends to be “dirty
coal powering your clean EV.”
Of course, not sure if either the city or TVA would be ok with their logos
being on it. Could omit those.

This sounds like a fun idea. The folks in PBA parking would need a
little more detail than what I was able to glean from the exchange, but I
did reach out to make sure they weren't opposed to the idea.
I'd like to help find a spot for this to happen. Let me know as y'all
narrow down things like: How many stalls, what sort of design, and
times/dates to get in there?

I think Brian is the right answer for starting with permission and who we
need to talk to. Might be PBA ultimately.
Happy to help, it’s right there. I hear I’m decent at such things but I
need ideas as I’m not usually the creative type.

I would love to participate but I’m not sure the group wants me to be
the artist. 😁 I will buy chalk, be there that day, take photos, etc.
… even help with the drawing if desired, just want to know if anyone
else wants to participate?

Does anyone want to run with this idea? I don't know what we would
draw? and who's going to help draw?
Robert who do you think we ask?
If we did the ground near a charger in a garage it's going to last a
lot longer!
Any thoughts on this?

Could probably do a space or two in the Market Square garage or if
you want it to last longer the State Street garage. I’d bet the city
would be OK with that if we ask kindly.

We could do it on the ground near an EV charger somewhere so the
pictures we submit have the charger in the picture.

Think KEVA might want to do an EV themed chalk thingie
somewhere?? We could meet at someone’s house on their street or
pick another location.
Seems like something on EVs and equity might strike a common
cord. It doesn’t have to be fancy with shadows but should be
colorful and can rep KEVA/DET??

Chalk (Your) Walk is BACK! April 3-12, 2021
Instead of our usual large event downtown, Chalk (Your) Walk will
take place on neighborhood sidewalks, driveways, and community
spaces all across Knoxville from April 3rd - 12th! The
competition is open to individual artists and families throughout
Knoxville and the surrounding counties (100 mile radius of
Downtown Knoxville).
The first 500 artists/families who register for the event will
receive a free 48-count box of Koss Chalk Pastels to create their
artwork! Everyone can participate in the event by chalking at
home and sharing your work on social media, but you must register
online by Friday, April 2nd in order to be eligible for awards. A
panel of judges including civic leaders, professional artists,
and art educators will review the submissions and award cash
prizes and free art supplies to select artists in each age
division.
