While reading this I was expecting a very bad ending to the story, but this all
sounds like fairly good news (except for the part of cracking the screen).
Sounds like it would be good idea to keep one of those $199 screens on-hand as
a backup. The eBay listing even says “Grab one as a backup spare if your screen
ever breaks”.

Subject: [knoxev] Broken Screen (eeek!)
So Monday due to an unfortunate flip and impact when tossing my backpack into
the passenger seat, I managed to break my screen (2019 Model 3).
I don’t know if it was just the location, but due to the impact and spider
cracking I lost all touch input. Since I have PIN to drive enabled, that meant
I had to start the car with the app.
I managed to source a loaner screen and swapped it out, and ordered one from
eBay
(https://www.ebay.com/itm/Tesla-Model-3-Screen-Display-Unit-Center-1089543-00-E-Brand-New-Sealed-/184788646458?mkcid=16

&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0), which showed
up yesterday. After a swap this morning from the loaner, it works great and
now has a screen protector.
For those that haven’t looked at such a task, it involves removing a cover
panel on the underside of the mount arm, removing 2 bolts, sliding the monitor
and neck out from the dash, removing two T30 screws, and unplugging the cable.
It takes about 10min once you have tools assembled.
I ended up using a suction cup removal device from an ifixit kit to pop out the
access panel to prevent trim damage.
Screens are not coded to the car, so after the swap a quick reboot wakes it up
and all is done.
Estimates from Tesla were about $1300-1600 (presumably depending on the price
of the screen). All in for this was $219 plus about $40 for a screen
protector.
