This is book three of the Xeelee Sequence, my personal 2018 reading
goal.

I quite enjoyed this one -- it was a good balance between telling a
story and exploring the wider universe. It feels like there are stakes
and that you're experiencing a pivotal moment; there's also a bit more
heart in it than was in XEELEE: VENGEANCE. I really enjoyed getting a
bit more information about the Qax, one of the most 'alien' aliens I've
ever come across and really interesting as a concept.
