Started reading RING by Stephen Baxter today 2018-02-05.
This is book four of the Xeelee Sequence, my personal 2018 reading goal.
Finished reading RING by Stephen Baxter yesterday 2018-02-17.
I really enjoyed this one too. It inhabits a strange place in the
in-universe chronology -- starting early but ending more than five
million years later, making it chronologically the last book in the
Xeelee Sequence. Baxter even writes an afterword that states this is
the 'end' of the Sequence, but promising there's still much more to
cover.
Lots of interesting, mind-bending cosmology and physics in the book, and
ultimately optimistic in its outlook. Thematically, the book explores
mankind's mistakes and strengths, and ultimately ends on a positive
note: humans can, and will, adapt, improve, and survive.
