Volkswagen erweitert das Werk Chattanooga
Volkswagen will seinen mit Spannung erwarteten Geländewagen am Standort
Chattanooga im US-Bundesstaat Tennessee fertigen lassen. Die Volkswagen
Group of America investiert nach offiziellen Angaben insgesamt rund 640
Millionen Euro in das Projekt. Dem Fahrzeughersteller zufolge werden
dadurch rund 2.000 zusätzliche Arbeitsplätze entstehen. Das neue Modell

BMW will mehr Batteriezellen von Samsung kaufen
BMW setzt für seine Elektrofahrzeuge auch künftig auf den
Batteriepartner Samsung SDI. Das Unternehmen soll neben dem i3 und dem
i8 weitere Hybridmodelle mit Batteriezellen ausstatten. Eine
entsprechende Vereinbarung wurde in Seoul unterzeichnet, wie BMW
mitteilte. Nach Aussage von Samsung SDI ist das Geschäft mehrere
Milliarden Euro schwer. Weitere finanzielle Details nannte das

Opel baut Entwicklungszentrum für Motoren in Rüsselsheim
General Motors stärkt den Opel-Stammsitz in Rüsselsheim. Für 210
Millionen Euro entsteht dort ein siebenstöckiger Gebäudekomplex, in dem
Ingenieure und Techniker von 2017 an sparsame Triebwerke entwickeln
sollen. Das Test- und Entwicklungszentrum für Motoren wird auf einer
Fläche von rund 36.000 Quadratmetern entstehen und unter anderem 43
Motorenprüfstände beherbergen. Diese Investition sichert auch Jobs am

Linde nimmt als erste Firma Produktionslinie für Wasserstoffstationen in
Betrieb
Linde hat am 14. Juli die nach eigenen Angaben weltweit erste
Produktionslinie für Wasserstofftankstellen in Betrieb genommen, um so
den Aufbau eines Netzwerks für umweltfreundliche Fahrzeuge
voranzutreiben. Vor dem Hintergrund der Nachfragesituation in Japan und
der Tatsache, dass Toyota und Hyundai kommerzielle Markteinführungen
angekündigt haben, hat Linde eine Fertigungsanlage mit einer
anfänglichen Kapazität von 50 Einheiten im Jahr in Betrieb genommen.
Bisher hat das Unternehmen die Tankstationen eine nach der anderen von

ZF trotzt mit Gebot für TR dem Trend
In einer Zeit, in der viele Zulieferer sich von nicht zum Kerngeschäft
gehörenden Geschäftsfeldern trennen, entscheidet sich ZF Friedrichshafen
stattdessen für Zukäufe und bietet für TRW Automotive Holdings. Wie ZF
kürzlich bestätigte, hat das Unternehmen ein unverbindliches Kaufangebot
für TRW abgegeben. Sollte das Geschäft zustande kommen, entstünde aus
den vereinten Unternehmen ein breit aufgestelltes Kraftpaket, das nur
noch von dem Zuliefergiganten Robert Bosch übertroffen wird. ZF und TRW
haben im vergangenen Jahr zusammen einen Umsatz von 36,6 Milliarden
Dollar im Automobilsektor erwirtschaftet, während Bosch weltweit rund
40,2 Milliarden Dollar Umsatz mit Fahrzeugherstellern gemacht hat.

Peru genehmigt Tres-Hermanas-Windpark
Das peruanische Ministerium für Energie und Bergbau hat den
Tres-Hermanas-Windpark mit einer Gesamtkapazität von 97 Megawatt
genehmigt, wie die lokale Zeitung "Gestion" berichtet. Das Projekt an
der Südküste des Landes gehört dem spanischen Energieunternehmen Grupo
Cobra. Die für Peru zuständige Geschäftseinheit des Unternehmens
reagierte nicht sofort auf eine Bitte um Stellungnahme. Auch die
Pressevertreter des Ministeriums waren nicht für einen Kommentar

Volkswagen expands Chattanooga plant
Volkswagen plans to produce the eagerly awaited SUV at its Chattanooga
site in the U.S. state of Tennessee. According to official data,
Volkswagen Group of America is to invest a total of about 640 million
euros in the project. The automaker says the move is to create about
2,000 new jobs. Production of the new model is scheduled to begin at the

BMW plans to buy more battery cells from Samsung
BMW continues to rely on its battery partner Samsung SDI when it comes
to equipping its electric vehicles. In addition to the i3 and i8 models,
the company is to provide battery cells for further hybrid models in
future. A corresponding agreement has already been signed in Seoul, BMW
announced. Samsung SDI says the deal is worth several billion euros.
However, the company did not reveal further financial details. (DPA –

Opel builds development center for engines in Rüsselsheim
General Motors strengthens Opel's headquarters in Rüsselsheim. A complex
of seven-story buildings is to be constructed there for 210 million
euros to house engineers and technicians who are to develop more
efficient engines there starting in 2017. The test and development
center for engines will have a floor space of about 36,000 square meters
and feature 43 engine test stands, among other things. This investment
also helps protect jobs at the headquarters of Adam Opel AG. (DPA – July

Linde first company to open hydrogen fueling station production line
Linde opened what it said is the world's first production line for
hydrogen fueling stations on July 14, in a bid to boost support networks
for eco-friendly vehicles. On the back of commercial launch
announcements by Toyota and Hyundai and demand in Japan, Linde started
up a production facility with an initial annual capacity of 50 stations.

ZF bucks trend in bid for TR
In an era in which many suppliers are shedding noncore business lines,
ZF Friedrichshafen is looking to bulk up by bidding for TRW Automotive
Holdings. ZF recently confirmed it has made a nonbinding proposal to
acquire TRW. If the deal goes through, the combined firms would be a
diversified powerhouse, second only to mega-supplier Robert Bosch. Last
year, the two companies generated a combined 36.6 billion dollars in
business with automakers, while Bosch had roughly 40.2 billion dollars

Peru approves Tres Hermanas wind farm
Peru's Ministry of Energy and Mines approved the 97-megawatt Tres
Hermanas wind farm, reports the local newspaper "Gestion". The project
on the country's southern coast is owned by Grupo Cobra, a Spanish
energy company. The firm's Peru unit did not immediately respond to an
e-mailed request for comment. Press officials for the ministry could not
