Deutsche starten Aufholjagd bei E-Autos
Die deutschen Autohersteller wollen in China bei der Produktion von
Elektroautos aufholen, wie sie auf der Autoshow im südchinesischen Guangzhou
ankündigten. Daimler will künftig mit dem EQA einen kompakten Stromer dort
produzieren und vorher ab 2019 den EQC herstellen. Volkswagen will zehn
Milliarden Euro investieren und 40 Fahrzeugmodelle mit reinem Elektroantrieb

Ford streicht den C-Max Hybrid
Ford wird die US-Produktion des Vans C-Max Hybrid Mitte nächsten Jahres
beenden. Im September war schon die Plug-in-Modellvariante C-Max Energi aus dem
Programm genommen worden. In Europa werde man den C-Max aber noch "für ein paar
Jahre" produzieren und verkaufen - mit herkömmlichen Verbrennermotoren, wie ein
Sprecher gegenüber dem Branchenportal "Automotive News" erklärte. Statt C-Max
und Focus sollen im Ford-Werk in Michigan von 2018 an der Pick-up Ranger und

Nissan deutet Bau eines neuen US-Werks an
Laut José Muñoz, dem Vorsitzenden von Nissan North America, könnte das
Unternehmen irgendwann mehr Produktionskapazität in den USA benötigen. Die
Erweiterung müsste eine eigenständige neue Fabrik sein, da die bestehenden
Werke des Konzerns in Tennessee und Mississippi "ausgereizt" seien, sagte Munoz
in einem Interview. Unterdessen lobte US-Präsident Donald Trump den Plan von
Toyota und Mazda, gemeinsam eine 1,6 Milliarden Dollar teure Autofabrik an
einem noch nicht festgelegten US-Standort zu bauen - eine Investition, die

GM: Fahrplan zu profitablen Elektrofahrzeugen
General Motors hat Pläne für eine neue Elektro-Flotte angekündigt, die den
Absatz auf eine Million Einheiten pro Jahr bis 2026 erhöhen soll. Als erster
Schritt sollen vier neue Elektrofahrzeuge bis 2020 veröffentlicht werden,
worauf 2021 eine neue Elektroplattform folgen soll, die die Kosten um
mindestens 320 Prozent reduzieren und bei wenigstens elf Modellen zum Einsatz
kommen soll. Das Ziel suggeriert, dass GM einige der Kostenhürden bei
Elektrofahrzeugen genommen hat, während Herausforderungen wie
Akku-Produktionskapazität, Ladeinfrastruktur und Kundenakzeptanz bleiben.

Continental baut in China und in Amerika Turbolader-Werke
Continental eröffnet an seinem chinesischen Standort in Jiading, einem
Stadtbezirk von Shanghai, sein erstes Turboladerwerk außerhalb Europas. Dort
rollt Turbolader RAAX vom Band, den der Zulieferer für den
Zwei-Liter-Turbobenziner des Volkswagen-Konzerns entwickelt hat. Am
mexikanischen Continental-Standort San Luis Potosí wird vom kommenden Jahr an
ebenfalls der RAAX-Turbolader für den Konzernmotor von Volkswagen hergestellt.
Im Laufe des Jahres 2018 soll darüber hinaus eine Produktion in Nordamerika

Kuka streicht in Augsburg 250 Stellen
Kuka wird an seinem Stammsitz in Augsburg 250 Arbeitsplätze abbauen. Betroffen
sind Mitarbeiter in der Anlagenbau-Sparte "Systems", wie eine Sprecherin auf
Nachfrage bestätigte. Die Sparte hatte zuletzt mit Schwierigkeiten zu kämpfen.
Unternehmenschef Till Reuter macht dafür die entsprechenden Manager
verantwortlich. Der Maschinenbau-Konzern verhandele jetzt mit dem Betriebsrat
über sozialverträgliche Maßnahmen für betroffene Mitarbeiter, fügte die

German carmakers racing to catch up in e-car business
German carmakers want to make up ground in EV production in China, they
announced at the motor show in Guangzhou, southern China. Daimler plans to
produce the EQA, a compact e-car, in the region, after launching ECQ production
in 2019. Volkswagen will invest 10 billion euros and produce 40 car models with

Ford cancels C-Max hybrid
Ford will stop US production of the C-Max hybrid in mid-2018. In September, the
plug-in C-Max Energi model will be canceled. However, the C-Max will continue
to be produced and sold in Europe "for several years" - featuring conventional
combustion engines, a spokesman told trade news portal "Automotive News".
Instead of the C-Max and Focus, the Ford plant in Michigan is to manufacture
the Ranger pick-up and the Bronco SUV as of 2018. (Automobilwoche Online -

Nissan hints at building new U.S. assembly plant
José Muñoz, the chairman of Nissan North America said that the company may need
more U.S. production capacity at some point. The addition would have to be a
standalone new factory because the firm's existing plants in Tennessee and
Mississippi are "maxed out," Munoz is quoted as saying in an interview.
Meanwhile, U.S. president Donald Trump praised Toyota and Mazda's plan to build
a 1.6 billion dollar joint car factory at a still-undecided U.S. site, an

GM maps route to profitable EVs
General Motors has revealed plans for a new fleet of all-electric vehicles that
executives believe will push its global EV sales to 1 million units annually by
2026. In a first step, four new EVs will be launched by 2020, followed by a new
EV platform in 2021 that is to reduce costs by at least 30 percent and be used
for a minimum of 11 types of vehicles. While this target suggests that GM has
overcome some of the cost hurdles in EVs, challenges such as battery production
capacity, charging infrastructure and customer acceptance remain. (Automotive

Continental builds turbocharger plants in China and the Americas
At its Chinese site in Shanghai district Jiading, Continental is putting its
first turbocharger plant outside of Europe onstream. The plant is to produce
the RAAX turbocharger, which the supplier has developed for Volkswagen's
two-liter turbo gasoline engine. As of next year, Continental will manufacture
the RAAX turbocharger for the Volkswagen engine at its San Luis Potosí plant in
Mexico. In addition, production in North America is to be launched in the

Kuka to axe 250 jobs in Augsburg
Kuka will slash 250 jobs at its headquarters in Augsburg, Germany. Upon
request, a spokesperson said that employees in the plant construction division
"Systems" will be affected. The division has recently been facing challenges,
for which CEO Till Reuter holds the managers in charge accountable. The
engineering company is currently in talks with the works' council over socially
responsible measures for affected employees, the spokesperson added.
