zehn Monaten 1,9 Millionen Autos seiner Kernmarke. (automobilwoche online – 13.

Opel-Performance

(Elektro.net – 13.

October car sales
In October, BMW sold 168,509 vehicles of its core brand - a one percent
increase. In the first ten months of the year, BMW brand sales were up 3.6
percent to some 1.71 million units. Nevertheless, the gap between BMW and
Mercedes-Benz has grown: Daimler sold some 1.9 million vehicles of its core
brand in the same time period. (automobilwoche online – November 13, 2017)
Opel performance
2017 has not been a particularly successful year for Opel so far: in the first
nine months, the new PSA brand lost market share in nearly all important
European markets. It only saw its market share increase in France, but the
Rüsselsheim-based carmaker was still only ranked ninth in the country. By
working together with PSA, it now wants to make joint projects more profitable
and use synergies. (automobilwoche online – November 13, 2017)
Continental to consider EV battery production
Elmar Degenhart, Chairman of the Executive Board of Continental, has confirmed
the supplier's interest in manufacturing EV batteries, estimating the cost of
building a battery factory with a capacity to equip some 500,000 cars per year
at around €3 billion. Due to these investment costs, Continental is seeking to
establish a consortium in order to share this burden, Degenhart explained.

Continental would not produce batteries in Germany
Continental is currently considering establishing production capacities for EV
batteries. However, it would not do so in Germany - primarily because of high
electricity prices. If the plans are to be implemented, the plants would be
built close to customers and thus probably in Europe, Asia and America. Battery
production, which would be enough to equip some 500,000 vehicles per year,
could however not start before 2024 or 2025, the company said. (golem.de –

Changes at GE
General Electric's CEO John Flannery plans to present a major update to GE's
strategy. Flannery has come under pressure to restore investor confidence after
his company lost around a third of its market value this year so far. Citing a
report by "The Wall Street Journal", "money.cnn.com" writes that the plans will
focus on GE's three biggest businesses, aviation, power and health care. It is
possible that the conglomerate could be looking to sell off some of its other
businesses. (money.cnn.com – November 13, 2017)
Lighting conversion at production hall
ZF Friedrichshafen has converted the lighting in its production halls to use
efficient LED lamps, cutting energy consumption by 75 percent. After a
comprehensive evaluation of various solutions, the company picked Acaneo high
bay downlighters by Waldmann. These were especially convincing due to the
quality of their light and the low levels of glare. (Elektro.net – November 13,
