Clive Many thanks for sharing this information with me/the network. I would find it helpful if you could share your ‘about you’ questionnaire template. Best wishes Matthew From: kent-equality-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:kent-equality-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Clive.Lever@xxxxxxxxxxx Sent: 29 August 2014 15:27 To: kent-equality@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [kent-equality] Re: Query Hello Matthew, Firstly, thanks for starting the ball rolling by using the list to get thoughts and info from the group. At KCC, our general guidance to staff on what questions to ask on monitoring forms says: “ The business itself needs to check that monitoring is relevant to what is being done, and that information collected will be used as: · part of the analysis of the impact/ satisfaction of services · part of the performance management framework · we don't have that information/ it's reasonable to assume that we don't have that information. “ Basically, regardless of the protected characteristic in question, we would only ask for monitoring information if we are confident that gaining it would help us to deliver better services to that group, or it would improve staff care. We could share our ‘about you’ questionnaire templates with group members if it is felt that would be helpful. You may also find the GIRES (Gender Identity Research and Education Society) resource the quick guide to monitoring<http://www.gires.org.uk/assets/Workplace/Monitoring.pdf> helpful. Remember also that Gender and Gender Reasignment are listed as separate protected characteristics under the Equality Act. It may therefor be helpful to separate them out into distinct questions if, after reading the GIRES guidance, you do decide to monitor. I hope this helps, Clive From: kent-equality-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx<mailto:kent-equality-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> [mailto:kent-equality-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of matthew.mellor@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx<mailto:matthew.mellor@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: 29 August 2014 14:57 To: kent-equality@xxxxxxxxxxxxx<mailto:kent-equality@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: [kent-equality] Query Hello I have a question about etiquette when doing customer surveys, which has been raised with me by our housing department. When an organisation asks a question about someone’s gender, should the options include transgender alongside the male and female options?
