Subject: Hilton Pond 05-15-05 (Mud Turtle)

Of the five species of turtles we've identified at Hilton Pond
Center for Piedmont Natural History, the one least often
encountered has been the Eastern Mud Turtle. We came across
one of these small amphibious reptiles this week while we both
were out taking a stroll on the dam that forms Hilton Pond.

For a photo essay about mud turtles, please visit the
15-21 May 2005 installment of "This Week at Hilton Pond" at
<<http://www.hiltonpond.org/ThisWeek050515.html>>

As always we include a tally of all birds banded, plus a list
of interesting recaptures and a few miscellaneous nature notes.

Please forward this message to friends who appreciate birds and
nature, and tell them they can get a free reminder for "This Week
at Hilton Pond" by sending a blank E-mail to

subject line. Be sure to have them configure their spam filters to

Happy Nature Watching!
