Hi guys,

today myself, Samuel and Anja are planning a Skype on Participant's
Feedback to our OBJECTIVES. You are welcome to join (especially Jessi and
Graham).

It took my about 2 hours but I managed to compile the feedback from 12
participants into one document. You can find the content in the email
below. A bit long but very interesting! Tomek

OBJECTIVES/AIMS OF ALUMNI NETWORK – PARTICIPANT FEEDBACK
Combined by Tomek 18.08.2015

OVERALL FEDBACK:

-

The overall objectives are clear and easy to understand. Most of the
objectives can be measured, either with quantative or qualitative
assessments, massurement, and evaluation tools. However, I’m not certain
how some of the objectives that to do with ”promote” can be measure, either
by numbers or by quality, or any graduates of Kanthari will automatically
consider a member of the network.
-

The objectives are well written but lack time lines. One may not
easily know when they need to be accomplished. . Some are even ambiguous
and cannot be achieved. However when well analyzed, it’s evident that they
are inclusive of all the aspirations of the alumni and participants. Once
adapted, the kanthari community will be known and its contribution to the
general change in the world will be noticed.
-

These objectives seem achievable to a larger extent. In a scale of 1
to 10, where 1 is worst and 10 is best, I would put it at 8 because they
seem realistic. However, they don’t seem to have time frames and since they
are now on the consultation stage, I hope that it will be considered. For a
commentary on each of them, please refer to each individual objective where
my input is.
-

The objectives can be measured for success through a half yearly
survey from the network members. The following points contain some survey
questions which can give insights into the measurements of success.
Overall, the objectives are Immeasurable and very subjective to
interpretation. Certain objectives in the latter half are broadly stated
and hence, the measurements of success may not be clearly and effectively
defined. However, the objectives are Specific, Achievable, Realistic and
have an ongoing timeframe. The kanthari Alumni network has peer support as
the core basis of existence which is very useful and needed for all
educational institutions.
-

in general objectives are very good and also the really signified the
importance of the alumni net work however there some problems with regards
to the measurability and specificity of the objectives some are not so
clear while some others tend to be very good thus reconsidering this
problem is advisable in general I have listed some specific commands as
follows.
-

Firstly, the objectives are too many for a network of young people who
are busy with social projects in different countries. Secondly, some of the
objectives seem like mission statements because of their vagueness, they
are not very specific. Thirdly, some of the objectives sound more like
strategies. Finally, none of the objectives have a timeline attached to it.
-

*What is good? *The interest of involucrate the whole alumni and
participant of kanthari. I like the idea of making workshops to stay
updated in the topic of social change maker or other if it is useful; also
making a region based subgroups sounds helpful to keep in touch with other
alumni to share ideas. *What is bad? *The international schedule to
get a group meeting is going to be difficult they must include how many
participants must be on line to have quorum and continued the meeting. The
number 12 is missing. They must include the frequency or in which way they
will share the founding information.

FEEDBACK TO PARTICULAR POINTS:

1.

*To establish an efficient governing structure for kanthari alumni*

Comments:

- This Massurement of success can be measure when the result of output and
outcome is clear. However, in this objective itself, it does not have an
outline, and how the governing body look. Perhaps it can be rephrase as: To
establish an efficient governing board structure for kanthari alumni by
end of 2015

-

Time frame, for example within one year, measuring success by how many
alumnus benefit from the governing structure
-

There is no time line and there is more clarity needed. Measurement:
It will be difficult to measure if the structure is not clearly defined
with time line. Evaluation: Again it same that the governing structure is
not clear so how can it be evaluated.
-

if there is a structure and based on opinions (survey) of
members/users if it is efficient.
-

This has to be measured by number of accomplished tasks by the
established structure.

- This is achievable because obviously any team or group should have a
governing structure.Measurable.

-

This objective is rather vague and lack qualities like timeline and
detailed plans. Measurement/ Evaluation: there are no substantial
contents
of this aim so I don’t see how it can be a success. For evaluation, I
think
the fundamental building blocks are lacking here thus making it
difficult
to do am evaluation.

-

Great idea but how can it be measured and timed? Will it be similar to
Tansalesea, a virtual world with deliverables? Or something completely
different?

- To establish an efficient governing structure this initiates programs
for the benefit of the alumni subgroups or branches in different countries,
there is no time line the scope of the net work is not clear and it’s not
measurable. the requirement is not clear

-

*Measurement: *It is difficult to measure because it is neither
specific nor time bound, although it is realistic and achievable. It can be
rephrased like this: To establish a democratic governing structure with 5
official positions by January 2016.
-

Everyone has to participate at least in one online meeting in a month.

1.

*To provide a sustainable and efficient means of engaging alumni to
implement their concepts and ideas for positive social change*

Comments:

- This is not so easy to measure, however, with more clarification and
definition it can be measure by quantative measurement of success. And
there is no timeline and time frame for this to take place. According to
SMART, it does not qualify as good objective. It is not specific, can’t be
easily massure, no accuracy, realistic or timeline.

- Measured by the number of concepts implemented by the Alumni in
stipulated time. For example in a year.

- There is clarity but there is no time line defined to establish that
mechanism of engagement among alumni . Measurement: It can be measured as
to see how many alumni have reached out for consultation regarding their
projects and how have the alumni responded them or helped them into their
project. Evaluation: It can be evaluated as to how many project actually
got started through the help of alumni network.

-

not clear what kind of means, so difficult to measure.
-

This will be measured by a number of successfully implemented concepts
yearly
-

This is achievable but it has not yet been achieved because creating
social change is a long term kind of thing and yet this alumni body has
just been formed recently. Not measurable
-

The sentence has a clear structure of what is intended to be achieved
but lacks timeline again. Measurement and Evaluation: how, where, when and
how many are questions that can be answered to measure this objective. To
what extend have they impacted their beneficiaries
-

Great! That is SMART.
-

Firstly, the number of alumni present on the network with respect to
the total alumni number after one year of establishment can give a good
assessment of how effective the networking system is. Apart from that, the
members can be asked questions in the survey regarding their satisfaction
levels with the structure of the network and its effectiveness in
connecting people with one another and the ease of access to information
regarding people and resources on the network.
-

very good measurable, the success is achievable
-

Measurement: It is not specific, therefore cannot be measured because
the sustainable means of engagement is not clearly defined. Also, the time
frame is not stated.
-

The alumni’s has to provide or blog one time about the development of
the ideas

1.

*To offer peer support and promote interaction amongst kanthari alumni
as well as with kanthari participants.*

*Comments: *

- This objective is general, it does not talk about what sort of network
or engagement. perhaps more specific objective might be helpful, with
quantative and qualitative resource, like the number of participants and
alumnies on the network, how frequent they connect, and in what way they
can network and or engage.

- This can be measured by the achievement of the alumni reaching one
another and networking, supporting each other in social change regardless
of any challenge.

- It is clear and the medium of interaction is also not defined, time line
is also not defined.

Measurement: This can be measured through how many participants and alumni
are actively interacting through different medium and how their projects
are supported and connect through this network. Evaluation: It can be
evaluated through the increased interaction among members and their close
networking activities.

-

if and what ways of peer support they offer, what kind of interaction
occurs.
-

This will be measured by a number of successfully implemented concepts
yearly
-

This is achievable and its already been achieved since the alumni
already interact amongst themselves on Skype and some of them have been
given the opportunity to come back to Kanthari and share ideas with the
participants. Measurable
-

Again the lack of timeline in achieving this idea is questionable!
Measurement/Evaluation: if there is output like which they have supported
and how they have helped participants then we can say that it is
measurable. For the part of evaluation, the level/number of interaction
determines that.
-

That’s SMART.
-

A survey question which takes opinion from the members regarding the
level of usefulness offered by the network in helping them with exchange
and implementation of concepts and ideas.
-

The time differences of the countries difficult Very good but need
specification
-

Measurement: This is specific, and can be measured by the number of
alumni interacting with the participants either through the kanthari plus
on facebook or via emails.
-

In the blog should have a space of questions and answers each alumni
or participant can make their comments

1.

*To promote, in the alumni body, an interest in the affairs and
well-being of the kanthari graduates,*

Comments:

-

more clarification and definition needed to measure this particular
objective, there is no clear
-

This can be measured by the reality and assurance of graduates who
have been changed and empowered by this objective.
-

The objective is bit vague, unclear and slightly unrealistic.
Measurement: The measurement of interest in the well beings will be
difficult because it’s a personal choice and preference, some people might
not seem interested but actually help the graduates in their work. So it
will be difficult to measure. Evaluation: Evaluation will also be an issue
in this regards.
-

?
-

This will be measured by the a number of graduates adopted/served and
empowered by the body.
-

This is not measurable because it’s not clear it is clear that this
objective has not yet been achieved because they are yet to promote an
interest in the affairs and wellbeing of the kanthari graduates and they
are not clear about the form of wellbeing they want to promote. measurable

-

Promising, intangible lack timeline and should state if it is a
continuous process or not. Measurement/Evaluation this is achievable base
on individual interest, therefore the impact is not so strong and
evaluating this is almost not possible.
-

How will you measure and time this?
-

This is confusing and not measurable Broader
-

Measurement: This can be integrated into the third objective.
-

Should circulate a newsletter each month with interesting information.

1.

*To promote effective communication and sharing of information between
kanthari institute, its participants, Faculties and the Alumni.*

Comments:

- This can be measure with both quantative and qualitative measurement. It
is specific, and the data and information can be messaure across by the
parties that involve.

-

Measured by the success of positive information shared equally among
the participants, alumni and Kanthari fraternity.
-

It’s realistic, measureable and clear. Measurement: Measurement can be
done through how the information is shared in the network and how effective
this information is for alumni, participants and kanthari. If the
information is shared regarding the kanthari program through this network
then how many participants actually got the information through this
network? How many participants got the information regarding a grant
application on time and then end up getting a grant for their project.
Evaluation: Evaluation can be done through how much the information is
relevant and how often it is shared in the network.
-

check the flow of information (mails etc)between mentioned parts.
-

This will be measured by the relevant information shared among the
participants in a given time.
-

Yes this objective is achievable and partly been achieved since there
is a plat form of communication already formed on the social media called
Kanthari Alumni page where they interact between themselves and
participants can also now contact them from there as well as the faculties.
Measurable
-

Cleared and in detail but lacks how and by what medium.
Measurement/Evaluation Could be measured based on information dissemination
techniques. Evaluation is seen on the part of impartation of the goal.
-

SMART!
-

A quantitative count of the number of interactions between the
participants and the alumni per batch.(yearly) A quantitative and
qualitative analysis of the number of posts, shares and interactions
happening on the network on a weekly basis reviewed over a period of 6
months. A quantitative and qualitative analysis of the number of posts,
shares information sharing and interactions happening on the network on a
weekly basis reviewed over a period of 6 months
-

good
-

Measurement: This is also specific, and can be measured by the rate of
information dissemination amongst all concerned groups.
-

By the newsletter.

1.

*To promote projects and activities of members by enhancing their
visibility on an international level through various Medias and forms of
presentation. *

Comments:

- This is specific, and can be measured with the success of promotion and
appearance on various medium of media, conference, etc for the project.

-

This can be measured by the number of ventures and projects portrayed
on these mediums of presentation that have succeed.
-

The objective is clear but it can more clearly if the media is
defined, like promote on social media or print media or electronic media.
Measurement: The measurement can be done through how much exposure the
projects get and how successful the participants are in their projects and
initiatives. Evaluation: The visibility and success can be measured through
how effectively the initiative has impacted to its targets and how it has
been appreciated by the public and media in general & the word of mouth.
Also how much trust the initiative generated among its donors.
-

how many projects have been covered by media.
-

This will be measured by the number projects and activities promoted
successfully on the globally.
-

This achievable since they already promote each other in a way that
there is already one of the alumni doing the work of covering documentaries
about the alumni’s projects and activities. Measureble
-

There is a well-defined program plan but there should be emphasis and
specification of the media so it’s therefore measurable. Measurement /
Evaluation what is the number of activities, what enhancement achieved are
steps that should be taken in measuring the objective.
-

I like it and it sounds SMART but I’m concerned about timing.
-

A quantitative analysis of the number of member organizations that are
getting media attention through the network
-

Much effort as donor are not expected to attend such a platform so
it’s difficult to measurable
-

Measurement: This is also specific, and can be measured by the number
of projects on newspapers or websites or speeches at international
conferences.
-

By a blog or Q/A

1.

*To initiate programs for the benefit of the alumni by establishing
region-based or project-based subgroups or branches in different
countries.*

Comments:

- This can be measure with the establishment of the initiation of groups,
however, it will be better with a specification and timeline. e.g. In next
3 years, will initiate 5 region s of support groups/network etc.

- The measurement of this objective will be seen in successful established
region-based projects in countries within a specific time frame.

- It is realistic, achievable and nice to sub group it to the convenience
of others. Measurement: Measurement can be done how many kathari graduated
connect to each other in their regions and countries how often they
collaborated to work together or support each other. Evaluation: Evaluation
can be done through the networking and collaborated efforts graduates from
same region or countries carry out together and how much they are
collaboratively successful in bring social or development change in their
region or country.

-

if there were established any subgroups/branches.
-

This will be measured by regional achievements of the
subgroups/branches in different countries.
-

This is measurable because this objective has partly seen some success
in a way that the Alumni from the same country are always encouraged to
stick and work together. Measureable
-

The idea of forming sub groups is expedient for the good of the team
members and measurable though timeline is not indicated.
Measurement\Evaluation will be based on output like the programs design
details and can be evaluated based on coverage and social impact made by
the team in each sub region and reports based on their achievements
-

SMART but timing is not clear.
-

A quarterly comparative analysis showing the number of subgroup
meetups(real or virtual over the internet) happening per month before the
establishment of the network, 3 months after the establishment of the
network, so on and so forth. The number of cross project interactions,
meetings, collaborations, visits to one another’s projects taken over 6
months period.
-

They may in red water the idea may not be same so the success also
measurable the objective is achievable good
-

Measurement: The objective is specific (to initiate programs for the
benefit of alumni) and it also has a strategy (by establishing region-based
or projects-based subgroups or branches in different countries), but does
not have a timeline of implementation. It can be measured by the number of
active region-based projects established in different countries.
-

Monthly report of our meetings

1.

*To set up a continuous learning system for the members through such
means as organizing workshops, online and in person meetings for their
development.*

Comments:

- This can be measure when the output and outcome is achieve with how many
workshops or programs has been set up, however, there is no timeline or
time frame on how this it will take place.

-

Measurement will be based on number of workshops organized in a year.
-

This objective is achievable, realistic, and good. Measurement: The
measurement can be done through how many workshops were done and what was
the ratio of participation in these workshops. How beneficial these were
for the participants. Also how often there is an in person meeting and how
effective it is. Evaluation: Evaluation can be done through how much these
workshops and meeting helped the graduates or alumni member in achieving
their objective in their initiatives. And are these workshops for skill
development & do they actually build the skills in the participants.
-

if and how many of workshops/meetings x development took place.
-

This will be measured by the number of meetings and workshops
conducted per year.
-

This is achievable though there is not yet any clear success of
workshops that were organized. Measureable
-

This goal is very much cleared and achievable therefore measurable but
attention should be given to timeline like quarterly or Simi quarterly or
annually etc. Measurement/Evaluation can be measured if there is time line
and dissemination of informative information based on workable details and
responsibilities and also attendants. In evaluation, what difference has
this system of learning made to each alumni, can guarantee the impact.
-

Great! Sounds SMART.
-

It is easy to achieve it need a lot of effort but Excellent
-

Measurement: The objective is specific (to set up a continuous
learning system for the members), with a strategy (through such means as
organizing workshops, online and in person meetings for their development),
but not timeframe for execution. It can be measured by the numbers of
workshops organized.
-

Taking statistics of the participants online.

1.

*To serve as a platform through which alumni may coordinate their
fundraising efforts after graduation from kanthari.*

Comments:

- This can be measure and it is specific, the success can be how many
successful fund-raising event it carries in a year.

-

Measurement on results based on these fundraising efforts. How many
alumnus have been funded.
-

It is a realistic, achievable, likeable much needed objective.
Measurement: It can be measured through how successful were the graduates
actually in acquiring sufficient funds for their initiatives. Evaluation:
It can be evaluated if the fundraising is increased or decreased or is the
same and how it has been helpful for new graduates.
-

vague, depends what they mean by coordinating fundrising efforts.
-

This will be measured by the number of fundraising efforts
coordinated. and amount of funds raised in a set period of time
-

This is measurable because they can try to connect themselves to
donors.

Measurable.

-

A fund raising platform is crucial for all graduates thus ranking the
objective as credible, achievable, measurable and outstanding. Measurement
is achieved based on links and number of potential donors that they have
encountered so far at specific periods of time. And evaluation comes with
recorded fund that has been raised
-

Really SMART!
-

A quantitative analysis of the number of kantharis receiving funding
through the network. A survey question which asks about the level of
contribution of the alumni network in the fund raising efforts of the
individual NGO can also serve as a measurement of success.
-

The success is measurable and achievable Good
-

Measurement: It is specific, and can be measured by the successful
fundraising activities carried out.
-

Monthly report by the alumni If there is no report someone of the
members could intervene or share some information.

1.

*To assist kanthari alumni to establish partnerships, and access
resources necessary for their successful project implementation. Including
but not limited to: volunteers, experts, potential donors and media.*

Comments:

- this can be measure, and it is specific, it can measure by the success
of the strategy on how and what platform this might take place.

-

Can be measured by partnerships and resources acquired in a given time.
-

The objective is realistic, clear and useful. Measurement: The
measurement can be done through seeing how many volunteers, experts, and
potential donors actually came to help out the members for their
initiatives. Evaluation: The evaluation can be done through how useful this
partnership is for the members, and do they actually get help with their
initiatives or not.
-

how many partnerships were establish and collaboration started on its
bases.
-

This will be measured every alumni’s accomplishments per year through
partnerships developed anywhere.
-

This is not measurable because the objective is so broad and it’s
targeting a lot of deliverables at the same time it’s not clear what
exactly they want to achieve with this objective. Not measurable
-

It is well structured therefore it’s clear and can be measured.
Measurement/Evaluation is based on number of tools such as volunteers,
expects, potential donors and media.
-

Absolutely SMART!
-

A survey question that obtains opinions of the members regarding the
ease of access and the level of contribution of the alumni network in
obtaining the required resources for effective set up and running of the
NGO(volunteers, donors, experts, media, etc).
-

Very good
-

Measurement: The objective is specific, and can be measured by the
number of successful partnerships and resources accessed.
-

Sharing needs the project is having.

*11.To establish collaborative links with other alumni bodies,
organizations and the rest of the world with similar interests.*

Comments:

- This can be measure, however, it can be combine with objective 10, with
more specification and definition, and implementation.

-

Measurement on time frame.
-

This is a realistic, achievable and admirable objective time bond
might not be applicable as it’s an ongoing objective. Measurement: The
measurement can be done through looking at how many links made at a given
time period and how that link helped any alumni or graduate in their
initiative. Evaluation: Again evaluation can be done through how the links
are helping the participants get benefits like, funding opportunities
collaborations training and etc.
-

rest of the world a little bit tricky to measure, but can be checked
how many links were establish with different organizations.
-

This can be measured by the specific targets made through the
collaborative net works.
-

It’s not measurable because they are not specific on which alumni
bodies and organizations that they want to establish links with and to say
that the rest of the world with similar interests it means they are not
certain of which part of world they want to link up with. Not measurable
-

Organizing an international link is a brilliant idea that has future
prospects or benefits. Measurement/Evaluation the number of links
achievable on the book are measurements.
-

Absolutely SMART!
-

A quantitative analysis of number of interactions of the Alumni
network and collaborative links established with other organizational
bodies across the world. A qualitative and quantitative analysis of the
participation levels of the NGOs in the Central socio-political and
economical activities in respective countries.
-

Time frame is not clear what is worthwhile is not terms is not clear
and very subjective
-

It is not clear therefore success is not measureable but good
-

Measurement: This can be integrated into objective 10.
-

Uploading the links in the blog therefore is possible counting the
visits to the links

* 12.To participate in any other worthwhile national and international
development activities.*

Comments:

- this can be measure with the output and outcome of the purpose with more
specification. However, it can be measure by the quantity of engagement
that they involve with.

-

This will be measured the number of national or international
development activities attended by members annually.
-

This is also not measurable because they are not being realistic
enough here how can they say they want to participate in any worthwhile
development activities which means they will not achieve their interest
because they are not focused on specific things which are beneficial to
them there are so many worthwhile development activities meaning that they
will participate in all these activities without setting boundaries to
which activities best suit them. Not measurable
-

No Timeline and very vague. It would have been better if they will be
a bit more specific on which events/ development. Measurement is almost
impossible here. Can’t also be easily evaluated
-

SMART!
-

Good
-

Measurement: This sounds broad, but it can be measured by the number
of participants involved in other development activities.
-

Sharing in the blog the interesting topics around the world also
including some facilities options to travel or to be able to watch or have
access to those activities.

*13.To pursue any other objectives consistent with the above aims and
objectives of the Association independent of political, religious, gender,
racial, tribal and personal bias or any other attribute of discrimination.*

Comments:

- Needs more clarity however it is too broad to be measure. Need more
specification and definition of the objective.

- This will be measured by the specific objectives sustained and led
throughout the cycle of the network.

- This is not achievable because they are not clear on the other
objectives they hope to later come up with. Not measurable

-

This objective is clear, likable, can be realized with time and
efforts. Measurement/ Evaluation can be measured base on its aim as
independent so there is no need for bias or foul play. Evaluation is this
case is achieved by a check and balanced monitoring system.
-

Really SMART! I’ll be happy to be part of the alumni if these
objectives stand as they are. However, some areas will need to be touched
just for perfection. Otherwise everything is okay.
-

A quantitative analysis of the number of complaints/posts registered
as a deviation from the aforementioned objectives by the members of the
network
-

Very nice but a bit of ambition
-

Measurement: This is also broad and not specific.
-

Making a detail of the information on the newsletter of each one or
making a space in the blog specific to these information.
