Ed - - - - Pilots Required for Research on Runway Status Automation The MITRE Corporation Center for Advanced Aviation System Development (CAASD) McLean, Virginia As part of an FAA Runway Safety initiative, the Center for Advanced Aviation System Development at the MITRE Corporation is conducting a series of cockpit simulations evaluating proposed automation that would provide pilots information related to runway status. The simulations are intended to determine if a pilot’s awareness of runway occupancy is enhanced by the proposed automation. Adoption of the proposed automation may decrease the number of runway incursions. The simulations will be conducted from October 21st through October 31st and will require 18 pilots. Pilots should have recent flight experience within the past three months. The simulation environment consists of a mid-fidelity, generic cockpit with a visual scene. The evaluation will consist of flying a series of short approaches. Two pilots will be scheduled per day (8:00AM -12:00 PM & 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM) during the evaluation period. MITRE will provide $150 compensation for your participation.
