It turns out the no sound from my midi in and out was all my own
fault. I didn't have the cables in the correct order, yay! I was
afraid it was something more serious.

hold of Focusrite as tech support have been in a meeting for over an
hour so I may have to phone them tomorrow as our phone is being used
at the mo. Oh well, at least I have the 25S working again.
