I agree that we tend to categorise. In my case it's not neccessarilly on efficiency but may be on something as simple, but immutable, as accent. The chap at Jersey has a French accent which makes life just a bit more difficult. I'm sure that, as we increase our experience of different controllers, we will each develop a list of those we like and those we are less ecstatic about.

The problem really comes with the two Control zones, where, in my case, I'm going to have to fly through Scottish Control more frequently, until I feel comfortable I'm hearing transmissions correctly. With just two coverall positions there's no element of choice. If something is going to change then it will have to be me!

We'll have to see. I know my presence at EGNS has activated interest in the
airfield but no doubt the same will happen at Bristol and Gloucester when
John and Frank start logging in.

As we all know, each airfield develops it's own character. Part of this is
the novelty of each airfield's local terrain and procedures and part becomes
stamped by the character of the staff manning the airfield. Without
intentionally doing so I have already established a level of service for
EGNS that has drawn experienced pilots (and some controllers) to visit the
airfield. They have also probed my capabilities by throwing in a few
oddballs - radio failure, procedural approaches, multi runway operation etc.
In other words EGNS has already developed a reputation as a "serious"
airport to visit.

The downside of this is that once pilots classify an airport a being worth a
visit the expectancy is that the level of ATC is consistent. We all fall
into this trap because we all mentally grade each airport and the staff we
encounter. Some we then avoid and others we look forward to flying into
again. I've already raised the stakes at EGNS and that, in a way, increases
pressure on any other controller that plugs in there.

I usually boot up Servinfo when I get up in a morning. "Whatever turns
you on" did I hear?

Anyway, since our lot became active in the Tower, there is significantly
more traffic here. Sadly not last night though.

You may need to set up a two watch system.......
