Actually, this is not correct. You have just been lucky so far that the first form field on the pages you have visited has been an edit field. Control+Insert+Home takes you to the first form field on a page, no matter what kind of field it is. To test this, go to

http://www.ups.com

the site for United Parcel Service. The first field on that page is a combo box.

Control insert home (or 7) is the command to take you to an edit field. I'm glad I just found out about the letter E but I have been using the first key combination to land on an edit field ever since I started using jaws.

the letter F is what Francisc is looking for. What is this key combination?
