Tom,
Try pressing INSERT+Z to turn virtual PC Cursor off when you are having
trouble reading those forwarded messages. I don't know for certain that
this will work, but I know it resolves other issues in Thunderbird when
reading editable text.
To change the To: field to a CC field press SHIFT+TAB and then use the
up and down arrow keys to select whether you want To: or CC: or BCC etc.
If you are in the To: field and you press ENTER you will get a new line
for To:. From there you can press SHIFT+TAB to get to the combo box that
contains the To: and CC: etc.

how to get to the CC field.
