I've recently done a virus scan, and my antivirus is up to date, and all
kinds of stuff like that. I still have no idea what would have initiated a
download request without my being aware of it. And let's see, am I still
able to use my computer? Let me see. :-)

No, seriously, that was a creepy little experience. Oh, well (crossing
fingers).

a crack cannot automaticly give you a download message. You must have gotten
something from somewhere else. You might want to make sure all your spiware
and antivirus protection is up to date, and do a full system scan just in
case. For all I know it could just be something you have installed, so don't
get to overparanoid, especially if you can still use your computer.
