A feature called Skype Watch has been added which will speak the names of
contacts as they change status regardless of what program you are in. After
activating
this feature, an option will appear in Skype's verbosity settings which can be
used to activate or deactivate the announcement of status changes.

Activating this feature requires familiarity with JAWS and is somewhat
advanced. We can not accept responsibility for anything resulting from your
attempting
this procedure.

Follow these instructions to activate Skype Watch.
List of 6 items
1. While in Skype, type insert+0, or type insert+f2, then s, then Enter, either
of which will open the JAWS Script Manager with skype.jss loaded. We don't
need to do anything to skype.jss, but this is the easiest way to get it open.
2. Type ctrl+o, then in the edit box, type SkypeWatch and press Enter. This
will open the SkypeWatch scripts. Type ctrl+s to recompile them.
3. If you are running JAWS 4.x or 5.x or have ever messed with default.jss in
JAWS 6.x, type ctrl+shift+d to open default.jss now. If you are running JAWS
6.x but have never messed with default.jss, use the File menu and find the
"Open Shared File" option and press Enter, then type "default.jss" and hit Enter
again.
4. Type the following line exactly as it appears, with quote marks and all,
right at the top of the file:
Block quote start
use "SkypeWatch.jsb"
Block quote end
This is not the normal place for such a line, but it will work for our purposes.
5. If you are running JAWS 4.x or 5.x or you are using JAWS 6.x but have
modified default.jss before now, type ctrl+s to save and compile the revised
script
file. If you are using JAWS 6.x but have not, until now, modified default.jss,
use the File menu and the "Save Shared File" option instead. This will recompile
default.jss and will, at that instant, enable the SkypeWatch system.
6. Type alt+f4 to close the JAWS Script Manager.
list end
