Hi Dan and others:

I don't recall seeing instructions for gmail and OE setup, but I did ask
a question about it. There are two things you have to do.

1. Go to www.gmail.com and sign in with your user name and password.
Your user name is your complete gmail address.

Allan: just your user id will do.

Once you've done that, press enter on the link that says "settings." Then,
press enter on a link that says something like pop and
forwarding. Finally, you need to check the radio button that says enable pop
access. Be sure to press enter on the button to save
your changes.

Allan: here is the tricky part, you can't use pc cursor to click on the
setting, you must use jaws cursor and place your jaws cursor
at "s" and do a left mouse click. then use your jaws cursor again to look for a
line looks like this:

General Accounts Labels Filters Forwarding and POP Chat Web Clips

then place your jaws cursor at the word "pop" and do a left mouse click. after
that you can use pc cursor to look for the part to
enable pop for your account. don't forget to save the setting before you close
the page.

2. Now that pop is enabled, you're ready to set up Outlook Express. Go into
OE, then press alt-t to go to the tools menu, and then
press A for
accounts; you do not have to press enter. Next, assuming you want to create a
new account, tab over to the add button and press
enter.

Enter in your full name and gmail address. When asked for incoming pop, imap
or http server, type: Pop.gmail.com

Allan: you can either use pop.gmail.com or pop.googlemail.com.

When asked for outgoing SMTP server, type "smtp.gmail.com" (without quotes).

Allan: you can either use smtp.gmail.com or smtp.googlemail.com.

Your user name for both servers will be your gmail address including the
"@gmail.com" part. Your password will be the one you set
up when you signed up for the gmail account.

Allan: you can just key-in your user id without the "@gmail.com".

Once you press enter on finish for the new account, you're not really finished.
Shift tab over to the list of accounts, make sure
the one you created is highlighted and tab to properties and press enter. Now,
press ctrl-tab one time to get to the servers tab.
Release the control key and press tab until you come to a check box that says
"this server requires authentication. It will be
unchecked, press space bar to check it.

Finally, you need to set up an SSL connection. Press ctrl-tab three times to
get to the advanced tab. The first thing you land on
is the outgoing server port number. Press tab one time and you'll come to a
check box that says my server requires a secure
connection. Press space to check it, press shift-tab one time and type 465
into the outgoing server port box.

Next, tab three times and you'll come to another check box that says my server
requires a secure conection. Press space bar to
check this, then press shift tab one time and verify the incoming port number
is 995. Press tab until you get to the ok button and
press enter, then press tab
until you get to the close button and press enter again.

Allan: one last step before press the "OK" button, at the "advanced tab", press
tab until you get to "Server timeouts" slider and
change it to 100%, then press apply button and finally hit the OK button.

You should now be set to use Outlook Express with gmail. If you have any
questions or need someone to walk you through this, give
me a call here at the Adaptive Technology Help Desk.
