There are several possibilities some hardware and some software. It could
be that you have some bad ram. This puts a high swap load on your hard
drive so that there is a lot of hard drive i/o activity in order to
compensate. This results in missing speech and can also result in no jaws
speaking at least during the hd activity. If you have a fan that starts and
stops on your pc like on a laptop, you might have issues like this. If your
power settings are set so that the disk spins down, you could have this
issue. If you have a lot of animation going on on the pc, this can be the
cause of all kinds of things. I Suggest doing a good scandisk and defrag in
safe mode, making sure you don't have any spyware on your system and seeing
if that helps fix the problems you are having as well as testing the ram in
your pc. I also suggest trying running the pc without jaws loaded and
seeing if there is any noticable sluggishness.

Subject: jfw cutting out at start up

Another prob I am having is when I start the computer, jaws seems to be
conflicting with something that is loading, because it will cut out in the
middle of what it was saying. If I wait a few seconds and touch a key, jaws
is still there-- occassionally it won't be. Are there any ideas of what
jaws might be conflicting with? My mother has watched the computer when I
turn it on and she can't tell what is loading that is conflicting with jaws.

Jaws also crashed on me when I ran scan disk and disk defragmenter.
Normally I could check the progress, but now I cannot. Any
solutions/suggestions? Thanks, Joy
