The XP SP2 firewall is more of an annoyance to the programs you want to use,
rather then a program to prevent what you want to prevent I've found, a
hardware firewall is the best way to go, if you want a software one, you
don't really need it if you have a hardware firewall but if you want one,
it's not a bad idea, especially on a laptop that you take with you, I have a
firewall on my laptop, I don't have a software one on my desktop,t he one in
my router takes care of that, but I'm not saying it's a bad idea to have
one. I've had zonealarm in the past and the main reason I don't have a
firewall on my computer now is because that's not as accessible, the free
version anyway, as it once was and I haven't bothered to look in to,
download, and learn another one.
