a quicker way is to place your cursor where you wish the new column inserted.
press control numpad plus then alt c

  1.    Put your cursor on the column you want to be preceeded by the column 
you want to insert.

  2.    Press the Application key (the key on the left of the right CTRL key.

  3.    Arrow to Insert and press ENTER.

  4. Arrow down to Entire column and press ENTER.
