common problem with jfw install cd and visual studio .net install

If I try to install jfw via the install cd which came in the mail, I get an
error that says
"microsoft active accessibility 2.0 is already installed wtih windows xp"
and then the jfw setup program ends.
this same error occurs when I try to install the prerequisits for visual
studio dot net, and if I download the msaa 2.0 redistributable and run it, I
get the exact same error.
given this, does anyone know how to fix the problem? I can install the
visual studio dot net on my desktop and the jfw cd on my desktop with no
problem. The problem only seems to happen on my laptop. I really don't want
to reimage the laptop.
please help
both machine are running windows xp home with softpack 2.
