avg and other

Dear list, I have aavg 8.5 on an old xp laptop and Ms essentials on my win
7 pc both using Jaws 11, I had expected the avg 8.5 to update itself in the
way adobe does one replacing the other,no need to delete current version, I
think but am not sure some of this anti virus require an installer first,I
use avg 8.5 daily for a scan, it takes a very long time, if others have avg
free on average how often do you do a scan? An engineer set mine to scan
at 7 pm daily, I note by the way if I forget to have pc on and look in tools
and perform a full system scan, it takes only a quarter of the time a
Scheduled scan takes, I see also by the number of files scanned a big
difference, has anyone else noticed this? Dorothy
