accessible dvd playing software

Hi everyone. My computer doesn't have a built in dvd drive, but a dvd will fit
in my cd rom drive. I was wondering if there is any accessible software that
will allow me to play dvd's without having to purchase a whole dvd drive. If I
do have to eventually purchase one, are there external USB b drives available?
Any advice on this is appreciated. thanks.
