a sound recorder question

Hi my friends. i have a question to ask of you.
I have a friend of mine who wants to know why the left right slider in sound
recorder keeps going down to i believe
1? she is trying to record something but it keeps falling down the number scale
all the way to 1.
Is there a way that she can make it stay the way it is?
