Hello, it has been a while since I have posted to this list, but then again, I
have not had any reason to post until now...
Let me start by trying to explain the problem that I have been having.
I recently purchased a copy of Word Perfect X3 Home Edition. I then
installed it onto both of my computers in my home which include my Dell
Dimension 8200 desktop which is running Windows XP home Edition Sp2. It also
has the latest version of Jaws running on it.
My other computer is a Gateway 6531 GZ notebook running Windows XP Home
Edition SP2. And this system as well, is running the latest version of Jaws.
Now for the problem that I am having. On my laptop everything in regard to
the functionality of Word Perfect and Jaws is working fine, but on my desktop
system when I try to read by character Jaws says "BLANK." I have emailed
Freedom Scientific about this issue but as many of you might expect they have
not been very helpful. I am going to paste the response that I received from
them and if anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate it if you would
pass them on to me.

I thank you all for any help you can give to me on this issue.

Scott

Subject: Jaws and Word Perfect X3

I am running the latest version of JFW and I have just installed Word Perfect
X3. When I launch Word Perfect Jaws announces a message saying this version
of Word Perfect is not compatible with this version of Jaws. Is there a way to
fix this issue? Also when I am inside a Word Perfect document I cannot
read by character. What can I do to solve this problem?

Scott

Dear Scott

Thank you for contacting Freedom Scientific technical Support. Try taking the
steps below and see if this resolve the issue you are experiencing in the
X3 application with JAWS announcing characters:

a: Open the View menu by pressing alt+v.

b: Press 't" to open the Toolbar dialogue.

C: The first item in the listbox that contains the Toolbars is the
Property Toolbar and might not be the item with focus. The item that has focus
will not be selected. Use the arrow keys to select (highlight) the Property
bar toolbar. Then press the spacebar to unselect the toolbar. By unselecting
the toolbar, you will hidethe toolbar from view.

D: Now press the enter key to save your changes.

NOTE: By turning off the Property toolbar, you will lose the following keyboard
shortcuts: Open Font combo box (control + Shift + f), Point Size combo box
(Control + Shift + p), Style combo Box (control + Shift + S) and Proofing tools
as you go (Control + shift + M) which include Spellchecking, gramma checking
and Thesaurus.

I apologize for missing the character issue, the initial issue is a known
issue. However, the character issue should not be taking place.

Be sure to include all previous correspondence pertaining to this matter when
replying to this message so that we might better
assist you.

 Regards,

Tracey Jackson,
