If you aren't on a network and are not using services that require a Windows
username and password such as the Windows task scheduler then you can try
removing your password and this should make the welcome screen go away. If you
haven't ever created a passsword then create a password, and then delete the
password. I believe this is how I got rid of my welcome screen sometime back.

I have on several systems also followed the instructions for automatic logon
suggested on the before mentioned website. I've run into serious problems by
doing this on one computer after attempting to uninstall software which was
installed before the automatic log on was enabled. The problem was that
Winlogon encountered a problem and haulted the system. Had to use Windows
restore to fix this. Maybe the problem happened because I had also changed my
user name and added a password after installing the software I was trying to
uninstall. Then I changed to an automatic log in.

there that worked perfectly.

  Hi there,
I have supplied instructions on my web site on how to bypass the logon screen
in Windows XP.
You can find those instructions at:

    Hello All listers!

I'm using JAWS6, Windows XP Home Edition SP2. Everytime I'm going to
restart my computer, the Windows XP Welcome screen is always appear asking to
select a user name. I would like to remove the welcome screen. I go to
Control panel, User accounts, looked for Change the way users log in or off.
There I check the check box that says, "use the Welcome screen check box". and
"Turn on Advance user switch". But, still the welcome screen is still appears.
 Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Regards,
