I wrote here a while ago about an MSN Messenger problem with MSN 6. Not
sure but I seem to have tracked down further info about this. I have a
laptop running an ATI Mobility Rage card, and I noted that I never seem to
experience the trouble with MSN 6 on that computer. However my
girlfriend's computer, using an Intel Graphics Pro or something like that,
card, exhibits the problem frequently. I have found that going into
Display Properties, changing the color depth, and then changing it back,
solves the problem temporarily. A hassle, but at least it's better than
rebooting the computer. The adapter is on-board, and since it's a "True
mini-tower" (only 3 PCI slots), all the slots are used so installing
another card is out of the question. (No AGP on this board folks.)

For those who don't remember the posts, the issue was with JFW not reading
MSN Conversation windows. The scripts would fail to function properly
(reading "Return 1" for all messages), and the JAWS cursor would become
oblivious to the presence of the message edit field - it would not go
lower than the menu bar of the window. This is obviously why the scripts
are not functioning, and it definitely seems to be a video card or driver
issue. The occurrence of this problem is inconsistent and I have noticed
no patterns as to when it occurs - it's a hit-or-miss chance if she will
be able to use MSN without having to go into display properties.

There are no more updates for the drivers for the Intel card in the
system. So, now I'm slightly worried that even an update for JAWS will not
solve the issue because there may be bugs in the video drivers.

Windows XP Pro, JFW 5.0.844. Messenger 6.2.

Comments anyone?
Thanks.
