You do have to make up your own away messages in AIM, but there is a default
away message that tells people you are away from your computer.

Subject: Using AIM with JAWS
Hello All:
I have a question about using AOL Instant Messenger with JAWS. A client was asking me how to set his AIM so it would tell those who might want to contact him that he is away. I looked through the AIM menus and I couldn't find a setting that one could press enter on to say that they are away. All I found was a setting under "my aim" that says "Away messages," and when I pressed enter on it, all it did was give me the opportunity to set up an away message.
Am I missing something? Please help if you can, thanks.
