You might also have to go to the Symantec website and get a removal tool to
make sure all is cleaned out.
 
Programs like to leave things behind.  Also it might be a good idea to use a
registry cleaner.

I am using windows firewall and even after disabling it does not work.
Incidentally,  this problem started after I uninstalled norton internet
security due to its inaccessibility.

Do you have a firewall?.  Or are you using windows firewall?
 
Try disabling it and see if you can get on-line.

Hello Friends,
 
I am using Windows X genuine edition with Service Pack 2.  since yesterday I
am unable to log onto any site though I can come online on MSN/skype and
send and receive mails.  I had Internet Explorer 7 which I uninstalled
assuming a problem therein.  However, the problem persists with IE 6 as
well.  I have no other browser and I do not know how to get an exe of ie as
well for reinstallation.  Please help.  Thank you.
